Hi Dave!
Those very scientific people (that’s sarcasm, by the way) at Redwood City Seeds claim that they have a new variety called the Habanero White Bullet, which (they say) is 3 times as hot as the Red Savina. Here’s a link: http://www.batnet.com/rwc-seed/Pepper.worlds.hottest.html.

Is it possible for you to point out to your readers that the Dremann scale on which they base this claim is a subjective, unscientific one by definition?

Jando:
Not only do they claim that, they state that the chiltepin is six times hotter than the typical orange habanero. This is false. I have no idea how their supposed heat scale was developed, but the only scientific way to measure capsaicin levels is with High Performance Liquid Chromatography. This method actually calculates the capsaicin in parts per million, which is then translated into Scoville Heat Units. Repeated tests show that habanero varieties are the hottest. In 2001, New Mexico State University tested all the varieties that they grew out, and the hottest was a chocolate habanero, beating even the ’Red Savina’.
