Q: Dear Dave,
Has the Zimbabwe Bird variety ever been tested for its hotness? Does anyone currently grow this pepper? If so, where would I be able to buy plants or seeds? Thanks for your time.

A: Hello Tiffany:
I haven’t seen any test results for this variety, which is a Capsicum frutescens, but bird peppers generally test at 60,000+ SHU, making them quite hot. To my knowledge, it is not commercially grown in the U.S. Hobbyists grow it. Seeds are available from Seed Savers Exchange (www.seedsavers.org) and plants are available from Cross Country Nurseries ( www.chileplants.com).
