Q: Dear Dave,
I have been attempting to grow some peppers from seed this year. My habaneros and some Sicilian peppers have sprouted unbelievably but I have found a mold growing around the top of the soil. My question is this: What did I do wrong? And how can I get rid of it? The only thing that I didn’t do is to put a source of heat under the growing pot during germination. Is this the reason for the mold forming? They have sprouted and I have removed the plastic. And I have them set in a spot with bright light coming through a clean window. I live in the
Thank You,

A: Hello Jayson:
The mold is the result of all the rain we’ve had this winter causing moist air. I had damping off (seedling collapse), the result of a fungus, for the first time ever in my greenhouse. Get a fan so that the air is moving around and that will help the problem. The lack of a heat source has nothing to do with the problem!
