Hello Dave!
I’m on the horns of a dilemma. This year I bought bat guano, as usual, to fertilize my pepper plants. When doing so they said that they had two different kinds, one from Mexican bats (which had a higher nitrogen content), and the other domestic bat guano, which has a nutrient ratio of 3-8-1. I opted for the latter since they only had the MexicanType in 40 lb bags…and I have a relatively small garden. I now have plants that are less than 1 foot tall with sizeable peppers on them. I’m wondering what my next step should be…should I opt for something heavy in nitrogen such as fish emulsion, something midrange in nitrogen content, or continue with the existing fertilizer? I am unsure which route to take due to the overall pepper growth cycle. Thanks for any information!
Mike
Hello Mike:
Don’t add too much nitrogen or the plants’ energy will go to vegetative growth rather than pods. You might consider finding a supplementary fertilizer with a ratio of 3-8-8 or something similar.
